ARLA - Association of Residential Letting Agents

The Association of Residential Lettings Agents (ARLA) was formed in 1981 as the professional and regulatory body for letting agents in the UK. It was recognised that the requirements of the residential lettings market were so detailed and specific that a separate organisation was required to promote standards in this important and growing sector of the property market.

ARLA is the only professional and regulatory body solely concerned with residential lettings. It keeps members up-to-date with changes in legislation and the many other requirements for a successful lettings practice. As an ARLA member, we are governed by the ARLA Code of Practice providing a framework of ethical and professional standards at a level far higher than the law demands.  A copy of the Code of Practice can be downloaded at http://digitalnation.fileburst.com/arla/arla_code_of_practice.pdf

In order to comply with ARLA’s membership requirements, the partners and staff at Accent Property Management have been formally interviewed to assess and confirm that our business:

• meets with the stringent code of conduct;
• holds separate client accounts and demonstrate these are professionally managed and audited;
• holds professional indemnity insurance cover to comply with the requirements of ARLA’s Fidelity Bond;
• offers a full management service to landlords in addition to letting and rent collection.

As an ARLA member we use tenancy agreements that comply with the Housing Act 1988, with the exception of company lets and/or rental values over £25,000 a year, in which case a Non-Housing Act tenancy is drawn up as per legislation.  Our tenancy agreement has been drafted by solicitors, incorporates clauses covering the potential problem areas experienced and is regularly up-dated to take account of changes in legislation.
