Cambridge looks set to be one of the areas to benefit most from chancellor George Osborne's Autumn Statement.
As part of the statement, Osborne unveiled 35 transport initiatives to boost the local economies in a number of locations, including Oxfordshire and Cambridge.
In Cambridge, Osborne promised improvements to the A14 in a bid to make transport easier for the 8,000 new homes being developed in Northstowe. The plans include widening the road between junctions 7 and 9 in Kettering, as well as easing congestion in and around Cambridge, BBC News reports.
The £20 million investment is said to be the first step in a long-term investment in the roads around Cambridge, which could go on to include other trunk routes around the A14 as well.
It is expected that with improved transport links, local businesses will see a boost and the lettings agents Cambridge has will see a rise in interest. This was seen recently with the opening of the Hindhead Tunnel in Surrey, as demand for houses in the surrounding areas rose even before the work was completed.
Speaking to dailymail.co.uk of the trend, housing expert Grainne Gilmore explained: "New or improved transport infrastructure can make a significant difference to the market, especially if it becomes easier to commute into a nearby city.
"Ease of travel is high on any list of properties for a new buyer."
